The Trip 2009 - Sweden 12

Monday 13th July.

It started out to be a nice day but clouded over by mid morning. Elin was working in the city near Central so we traveled in by train with her. We didn't have to use our tickets as the ticket office was closed.

We walked down to the quay near City Hall.....

.....where we caught the boat up to Drottningholm Palace.

Some very black clouds hanging over the City Hall and Gamla Stan.

The rear of the lovely Drottningholm Palace facing Lake Malaren.

The Palace guard have their eye on me.

This view was taken from an upper window of the Palace looking down the formal gardens.

The Palace Theatre was built in the late 1700's and still has its original stage backdrops with rope and pulley systems in full working order. When electricity was installed in the 1920's, the lights were made to flicker and replicate candle light.

Officer of the Guard.

The front of the Palace from the gardens.

A wall fountain in the grounds.

Beyond the formal gardens, but still within the palace grounds, is the Guard Tent. Despite its looks, it is of traditional construction with a sheet metal facing and dates back to the the late 1700's.

Near the Guard tent is the China Palace, a Chinese inspired royal pavilion built in 1753.

A nice shady place to rest.

The Palace is a beautiful place to visit and the trip there by boat makes it even more pleasurable.

Back in Sundbyberg we did some grocery shopping and were home before Elin and Jim arrived at about 1930 having been given a lift by P-G and Mollie.
