Whatever happened to Summer

Rain, rain and more rain seems to be our record of Summer. We have had some very hot patches of weather but the overall memory of this summer has been of a wet one.
Sydney water storage dams have had there storage level increased by more than 30%.

With all this water in the ground the next thing that happens is the sun comes out and the humidity shoots up. This also brings out the mosquitoes!! We just cant win.



Every container that is left out becomes a water storage facility.




We haven't had rain like this for years. At the beginning of this month, it was 20 years since the river flooded over the bridge in North Richmond and this year was the closest it got.



The ground is so wet that we have lost a couple of well established large bushes which screened us from neighbours.



Approximately six metres high and five wide.

Ah well, another couple of trips to the tip.

General 'Stuff'

Its been a very funny start to the year, not at all summer like. January was very wet and the start of February has been even worse with extremely heavy rain for quite a number of days. Today is the first dry sunny day for some time and I have just finished mowing the lawns, which because of the rain where very long. More showers expected all next week.



This was one of the better days and Alex wanted to try out my hammock.



He found that the first lesson was to keep still and don't wriggle around.



When Alex comes to stay at the weekend, which is nearly every weekend, he loves to go to the library. We travel across to Penrith as they have a far better selection of books than our local library.



Here he is going through the DVD selection for his favourite, Dr Who. Actually there aren't too many Dr Who episodes left that he hasn't borrowed, then we will be in trouble.




This is my new pride and joy. My old laptop died so I looked around for a new one. I didn't fancy any of these new fangled iPad thingies, all too technical for an old bloke so instead I settled on a new very quick 13" notebook.



It hardly weighs anything, its very quick, thin and has up to 10 hours battery life. That's a 50 cent piece alongside. I'm still getting used to it but having fun.

Of course Murphy's law came into play. Just after I got the new machine, our in-house computer guru fixed the old one by replacing the hard drive.
