Day 25

Sunday 29th December 2013

Some recent photos of grandson number four.

Henry exploring our bed.

Henry is eating well, sleeping better, is very mobile with his own style of crawling, and is a joy to have around.

Day 25

Sunday 29th December 2013

This Christmas period is a time for doing very little other than to relax and eat too much.  We are enjoying having family around us even if the little ones can tire us out. Yesterday I got involved in a water cannon and hose fight with Johan.  I think I came off worst and we both ended up very wet. Unfortunately no photographs were taken as we don't have water proof cameras, but we enjoyed ourselves.

We have stayed fairly local as during this holiday period everywhere is very busy.  We did manage a bit of shopping therapy with a trip to Castle Towers.  Actually we never got there as the traffic built up as we got closer, and the presence of police on pedestrian control and at car park entrances, suggested to even the keenest shopper amongst us that maybe we would come back another day.  We did end up at another of our favorite shopping areas where purchases were made by the females in the party. They felt that someone had to help the local economy.

The weather has warmed up and is closer to what we expect for this time of year. Yesterday was 34C but today is only scheduled to be about 27C which is far more acceptable.

In the blog of Day 20, I mentioned that I would borrow some photos from Elin, which she took of the preparations for Santa's Parade, so here they are.  Thanks Elin.

Getting help from three of my grandsons to put out the candles on the footpath.

Candles lit.

Everyone anxiously awaiting the arrival of Santa and his helpers.

Here they come.

Jim's 'high five' with one of Santa's helpers.

Here's the man himself.

The boys getting there lollies from Santa.

The house and footpath lit up. The strange green and red lights on the right hand side are Becky's Christmas earrings.

Thanks once again to Elin for the loan of some of her photos.

Have you noticed that I havent mentioned the cricket once!!

Day 21 - Christmas Day

 Wednesday 25 December 2013

It rained overnight and seems to be setting in for the day,  I cant remember when we have had a Christmas Day as wet as this, still we need the rain as the garden has started to dry out again.

Up early and it appears that there are even more presents under the tree after an overnight visit from Santa.

Johan was excited and just couldn't wait so we had a little opening session before the rest of the family arrived.
The house started to feel like Christmas with the rattle of present paper and cooking smells from the kitchen.

Nana helping Johan to open one of his presents.

Nana with a present from Mormor which she felt was too good to use on the table and made a lovely stole.

Elin starting to decorate the Christmas cake.

The finished result, excellent!

By mid morning the rest of the family arrived and three little boys were anxiously waiting to open presents.

Let the present unwrapping battle commence.

Jim had a lot of help and encouragement from Henry.

The lounge room soon resembled a battlefield of used wrapping paper.

As it was raining heavily, we had to eat indoors and the boys had their own dinning table. The platter of fruit mince tarts didn't entice the boys so more for the adults.

A great day was had by all!!

Day 20 - Christmas Eve

Tuesday 24th December 2013

The showery weather continued throughout the day but this didn't stop the preparations for Christmas Day.
In the late afternoon we were joined by Becky,Graham and the boys to help great ready for the big day.

Lots more presents going under the tree.  Johan helping Auntie Becky while Ben,Henry and Alex watch The Simpsons.

Let the celebrations begin!

Now that's a lot of  presents by any ones standards.

Dinner before the arrival of Santa and his street parade with all his helpers.

Sorry about the red eye Henry, I forgot to reset the camera.

The lights across the front of the house.

The candles are out across the front garden but unfortunately at this point I went to help neighbours light theirs so I have no photos of Santa arriving. I will beg Elin to let me borrow some of hers and add them later.

Day 20

Tuesday 24th December 2013

Christmas Eve dawned as a completely different day to yesterday which was very hot and humid. Today is much cooler, overcast and some showers around.
Di and myself were up very early to collect our per-ordered Christmas meat from the our favourite butcher some kms away. Even at 0700 they were very busy and at the adjacent fish mongers there was a long queue.
Back home for a quick breakfast before a morning walk along the river with Elin.

As we get close to Christmas Day the pile of presents under the tree gets bigger.

Yesterday was a big day for Johan, haircut day! His Poppa wasn't too keen for this to happen. Johan was very interested in the big chair and wanted to get his hair cut before Farfar.

Johan was a very good boy and sat still.

Momma and the barber Nat discussing how to have it cut.

That big chair is one of a pair of very old barbers chairs.

The end result and a lovely little boy.
