Paths and Decks.

Way back in June I mentioned that now all the sewerage pipes had been replaced all we had to do was to get the garden back to some semblance of order.  As you can imagine, having excavators in the garden did tend to churn up all the grass and of course when the trenches were back filled all the low level clay ended up on top.  Anyway, we are slowly getting there, although a long dry spell hasn't helped.

A new path being formed up which now runs from near the back door across to the shed.

Surrounding the paving stones, and in the bed on the right, we have now laid river pebbles.

Those sleepers are heavy!

Once the path was finished we decided to build a timber deck outside the kitchen and around the end of the verandah. This required the moving of lots of soil and some re-routing of rainwater pipes.

Its all looking good and the boss is happy! It will look even better when I have laid some turf to cover the rubbish soil and finish the project off nicely.

Thompson Square.

Why is the NSW Government putting a road through the oldest public square in Australia, damaging precious Australian heritage and ignoring the concerns of locals.

Thompson Square is in our neighbouring town of Windsor and the Government want to replace the Hawkesbury River bridge, which involves roads being carved through the historic square. Knocking down the old bridge and replacing it with a high, modern design would permanently destroy the heritage value of the area. The bridge is historic and, in the view of the vast majority of locals, should be kept in place for local traffic. However, there are issues. To begin with, the current bridge is prone to flooding in extreme weather and has had to be closed down a number of times for extended periods. The bridge itself is quite narrow, and with trucks passing each other, as well as buses, it is an accident waiting to happen.

Its obvious that a new bridge is necessary or that a by-pass be built around the town. Local protesters have set up a tent embassy in the square  and to while away the time they are knitting or crocheting squares which will be sewn together into blankets for third world countries.
