Travelling 2016 - Day 7

June 5th 2016

A very nice day but still a bit cool. I walked with John down to the Clive Post Office/ Store to pick up the Sunday papers.

After a nice family breakfast we all drove in to Shrewsbury and parked just over the river in the St.Julian's car park. From here we walked along the river heading for Quarry Park where there is some sort of festival taking place.

Looking under Kingsland Bridge towards the Shrewsbury School Rowing Club.

Following the riverside walk towards Quarry Park.

St.Chads Church at the top of the town.

Something happening at the rowing club.

As we approached the park we came across this climbing wall.

Someone having a great time.

In the park, the modern army were on display.

As was the reenactment by a group representing a Rifle Regiment from the time of Waterloo, commonly known as The Green Jackets.

The green uniform marked them as being sharp shooters issued with Baker Rifles rather than regiments issued with muskets who wore red uniforms.

The Green Jackets were used as shock troops and had to get to the battle front as quickly as possible, hence their very quick marching pace of 140 paces per minute, which is still used to this day.
The green uniforms were also the first type of camouflage.

I think Emma was hoping for a freebie.

Quite steep hill up from river level but some people still have to exaggerate.

Back in to town for a bit of shopping. John was shopping for a small tent to take with him to the Glastonbury Festival.

We all met up here for lunch.

Pre-lunch drinks in the courtyard.

Jane and Glynn, who is wearing my new hat.

Later we said our goodbyes to Emma and John who had to catch their trains back to opposite ends of the country. Emma back to Glasgow and John to Birmingham. A couple of lovely young people.

Back in Clive we sat outside with wine, cheese and biscuits enjoying a lovely warm evening.
