Travelling 2016 - Day 16

Tuesday 14th June

We woke to an overcast morning. Mid morning we walked down into the town for a bit of retail therapy. Dartmouth is a really nice relaxing place to be. Di bought a coat then we called in at the RNLI shop to say goodbye to Lynn, Rob was off sailing somewhere.

The entrance to the Old Market.

There are some very interesting buildings in this old town.

We had a nice lunch at Saveurs Patisserie before heading back up the hill.

Later in the afternoon Andrew and myself walked up to the Castle.

There are some lovely old boats on the harbour.

Apparently this cove was a haven for Richard the Lionhearts ships when setting off for the 2nd crusade.

Looking back towards town.

Kingswear Castle.

St.Petrox Church.

The car park from Day 13 in use.

Louise and Andrew took us to a very strange place for dinner, in an old pub. For once my diary lets me down for the name of the village. The food was great but when I say strange its only referring to the width of the streets. The approach to the pub is so narrow that the walls of the buildings carry many scars. Good job Andrew decided to take the little VW.

We were a little early for our table booking so sat down near the sea. There is a straight stretch of sand near a village called Slapton where American forces practised for their beach landings in WW2. Unfortunately 1000's of them were killed while training by fire from their own forces.
