Travelling 2016 - Day 12

Friday 10th June

I'm not sure what it is about Dartmouth but having only been here for a couple of days, I've fallen in love with the place. I suppose quaint and picturesque sums it up, a different picture around every corner.

Andrew and Ray heading back up the hill to home. With narrow streets and very little car parking available in town,it pays to walk everywhere. I think we will be fit by the end of the week!!

The steam driven paddle wheeler, Kingswear Castle.

I haven't used the car since we arrived so thought I would have a go at sorting out the SatNav. Unfortunately with this hire car they didn't provide a manual which may have helped sort this problem out. It just so happens that Andrew is a bit of an expert and soon discovered that the connection via the cigarette lighter was dead. It had been disconnected but he did find a USB connection tucked away under the dash and when plugged into this, all was well.

The morning was misty with some light rain so we decided to go out.

These narrow lanes don't make it easy but luckily we are near the top of the hill.

These are the gates to Louise and Andrews house.

It takes a few backward and forward movements to get the Range Rover out.

A visit to Avon Mill nursery at Loddiswell.

A short stop and walk around Kingsbridge before driving to Blackpool Sands for lunch.

Not many on this beach, just the little group in the centre.

In close-up.

The very nice restaurant behind the beach. Andrew got talking to a lady working there who recognized his surname, and found out that they were distantly related! Small world!!

Back in Dartmouth, following a nice afternoon tea of scones and cream, Andrew and myself walked down into town to pick up some provisions. Another chance to have a look around this beautiful place.

Not far from the house, overlooking the town, is the Dartmouth Naval College.

On the corner of the Harbour.

The Royal Castle Hotel.

Inside the foyer are these original room service bells.

Just managed to fit in a pint of cider at this lovely old pub on the way home. Just fuel to get us back up the hill.

The white building with blue trim featured in the BBC series, The Coroner.
Shame the programme wasn't as good as the view!
