Holiday 2012 - Day 13

I got up early and went for a walk down the long drive and through the rape crop to get photos.  After a nice breakfast Di and Louise headed off to Highgrove House while Andrew took me to see some big boys toys at the Heritage Motor Museum at Gaydon.

It was a petrol heads dream come true !

I know that I am going to be in trouble as this blog is bound to have a lot of car photos.

This is just a fraction of the exhibits on show.

A Leyland Eight built in 1927 with a sports body and 7.26 Lt engine.

1950 Austin A90 Atlantic.

Beautiful modern Aston Martin.

This is a Sunbeam land speed record holder.

A group of land speed record holders, the green one being steam powered.

Austin Healey 3000.  I think I'm salivating.

There are also lots of historic vehicles on display all beautifully restored.

Andrew must have a good breakfast as here he is ripping an MGB GT in half with his bare hands.

This Morris Minor fire engine was the works fire fighter at Morris Motors factory.

Goose bumps!  I had one like this but in Indigo.  A Triumph TR3A, about 1960.

This is an original Lotus 7, mine is just a replica and yellow.

On the way out we saw this Land Rover Experience vehicle and Andrew insisted we try the experience. What an experience it was, needless to say there are no photos as my hands were too busy hanging on.  Our driver was a very nice, and knowledgeable young man called Charlie and he certainly knew how to handle this vehicle.  Very impressive and something I'll always remember.

Little did I know that the toy show wasn't over yet. We headed across to the National Motorcycle Museum.  I was last here a number of years ago and really enjoyed it. Since then, the museum has had a big fire which resulted in them loosing about 400 bikes of the 600 on display. The museum has obviously been rebuilt and now houses a collect numbering over 800.

Bikes everywhere!!

This is how some of the bikes were after the fire.  Must have been heart breaking to see.

Brough Superior.

Vincent

Does this say it all?

A full size motorbike completely made from wood.

Back at Louise and Andrews we were joined for dinner by Ray.  We had a lovely meal and evening, and heard all about the gardens at Highgrove House.  Di obviously had a really terrific day but didn't seem too interested in where I'd been ;-)
