We had a very good nights sleep in a comfy bed, despite it raining all night. Its also good to have a nice shower in which we luxuriated. After a very nice cooked breakfast with all the trimmings we decided to get some exercise and walk along the river into the city for a good look around.
Our first close up look at the Minster. It was very cold and we both were very aware of what can happen to a holiday if you get sick, as in 2007, so we headed back to the B&B to get some warmer clothing. In a park behind the Museum we came across these very tame Grey Squirrels.
It was so cold, at least to us, that we decided to get in doors and hope the weather warmed up for a trip back into the city. As one of the reasons for coming to York was just across the river, we went to the National Railway Museum.
This is the best museum I have ever been in and believe it or not, it was all free.
Demonstration of the turntable in action.
The beautiful streamlined "Duchess of Hamilton"
An all time favourite of mine, A4 Pacific "Mallard"
Another favourite, Great Western Railways King class, King George V.
Another very famous loco under restoration in the museum workshops.
From the museum we headed back into the city to visit the Minster. Sad to say, the Minster fell short of our expectations. Maybe its because it had always been so higher promoted but we have definitely been inside more impressive buildings. Anyway I decided to at least climb to the top of the tower, which was well worth the effort.
When I got back to ground level and met up with Di, we came out of the Minster to find a big parade in progress. The keys of the city were being given to the crew of HMS York.
A walk around the city.
The '3' sign is where we sorted out our mobile phone the day before.
