There seems to be a sense of deja vu about starting this blog.
When we traveled to England and Sweden in 2007, I followed it up with a series of blogs exactly a year later, or as close as possible. This way I was getting double the pleasure from the holiday and reliving very happy memories.
At the beginning of 2009 we received a card in the mail suggesting that Di would need a new hat for a special occasion on Friday 19th June 2009. As the card was signed by Louise and Andrew we could only surmise that our niece, and God daughter, was getting married. Not long after getting this card we started to get hassled by Jim about when were we going to visit them again in Stockholm. It turned out that he had prior knowledge of the up coming wedding, following a trip to Stockholm by Louise and Andrew, but had kept the secret. Obviously Elin and Jim wanted to get dates sorted so they could sort out their own arrangements.
To cut a long story short, we finally planned and booked to have about four weeks in England, taking in the wedding of course, before carrying on to spend approx. six weeks in Sweden.
These long holidays are all well and good but they take a heck of planning before you even step onto the plane, pre-paying bills, pre-registering cars etc.
A year ago, the 4th June, started rather early. All the packing had carried on until late the night before, lots of pushing and stuffing of bits and pieces into every available space in the luggage. When we got up there was heavy fog which persisted all the way out to the airport. By the time we had dropped off our hire car we still arrived in the terminal on time, only to be told that the flight was delayed due to the fog! We booked in, got rid of the luggage and settled down in the lounge to wait. We had been told that the flight was rescheduled for a 1100 departure but finally boarded at 1350. At 1420 we were finally on our way as we flew directly over Becky and Grahams house in Winston Hills before heading for the clouds and our first stop in Bangkok.
