A Swedish Odyssey......

Tuesday 3rd July. While having breakfast we watched the children arriving at the creche until about 9.00am. We must be missing Alex!!!

We caught the tram from Luma Park, just outside the apartments and headed into Gamla Stan once again. I love the place.

The pump of Pump Square.
Pump Square.
The object sticking out from the window is called a 'gossip mirror'. Its shaped so that the people in the window can look up and down the street without being seen.
Lovely old buildings with wonderful colours.

The picture says it all. Its a Big Bag and we saw them in UK also. They are used to deliver building materials or remove rubbish from building sites. This one was for renovation work going on inside a building in Pump Square.

This emblem was for the Phoenix insurance company. As the streets are so narrow and congested, in the event of a fire, the houses displaying this badge got preferential treatment.

It just goes on and on. We spent most of the day just shopping and browsing. We met up with Mia and had lunch in Pump Square.

Some of the streets are so narrow that the rain water down pipes have been recessed into the wall so that vehicles don't break them off.

The rune stones are everywhere but no one can understand them. Its amazing that this one on a corner is protected by the barrel from an old cannon. One ancient item protecting an even older one.

What lovely colours and architecture.

While shopping we noticed the lack of cash changing hands. It seems that in Sweden even the smallest purchases are done by card.
