A Swedish Odyssey......

Sunday 1st July. We got up early and went for a little walk, although it was raining, before breakfast. Went to see E&J and sorted out some photos and it seems I still have problems with my camera. The rain didn't last long so we headed off to the Vassa Museum.

We caught the ferry from the bottom of the street where we came across this oddity. A very clever solution to a common problem. Two ramps with steps in between, so that the steps are no longer a problem for prams, strollers or bikes.

From the water I noticed these cranes which are called Giraffe Cranes and have been painted accordingly.

There are lovely old timber sailing vessels everywhere.

The Vassa Museum. We met up with David at the museum.

The Vassa was commissioned in 1628 and on her maiden voyage she capsized as she was very top heavy. She was raised from the sea bed in 1961 and the condition of the hull is remarkable. The good condition is due to the water in the area having a low salt content.

This is a model of how she would have looked fully rigged.

When we came out of the museum the weather was lovely and warm and we came across this bar. As soon as the sun shines, the Swedes are out in it.

Very nice and comfortable, and the beer was good too.

We walked back into the city along the water front admiring all the lovely architecture.

Back to the quay and sit in the sun and await the ferry back to Hammarby.

One of the many Stockholm ferries, most having access via a ramp at the bow.

Had little rest before meeting up with Mia and Ulf for dinner. Went to a water front restaurant just around the corner called Jimmys! We finally split up at 11.30pm and its still not dark!!
