A Swedish Odyssey......

One of the first things that we noticed in and around Stockholm were the number of bikes. They have special bike lanes alongside the footpaths and it is important not to stray into the bike lane if you don't want lots of bell ringing and shouting.

This is how E&J store their bikes in the basement area of the apartment.

This is a bike hire terminal. You pay a nominal fee, enter your personal details and then use the bike finally returning it to any of the same terminals throughout the city area. Terrific idea.

The bike lanes even have their own designated traffic lights. See on the right hand side.

And how about this! A special bike tyre inflation point which gives a 'ping' when the tyre pressure is correct.

One of the strangest things to get used to, strange as it may seem, was the 24 hour clock system. No am or pm.

The escalators are interesting in that when they are not being used they stop. As you approach them, they start up and get quicker the closer you get. How about that for a sensible energy saving idea.

There are signs on the escalators that directly translate into 'up' and 'not up', instead of down.

When your jar of jam is empty, you don't buy another one, you get a refill in the form of a sausage.

On public transport there are designated areas set aside for mothers with strollers.

The country is full of good ideas!!
