While we were on
holiday during June this year, we heard the announcement that England would be
putting its first plastic/polymer bank note into circulation during early September.
By a strange
coincidence Australia also issued a new plastic/polymer note about the same time.
Both UK and Australian notes were 5 denominations, 5 pounds and 5 dollars.

These photos are of our new $5 note.
They are very
colourful with clear security panels and features that change colour in differing light.
Whereas the
English note is their first plastic/polymer note, we have had plastic/polymer
notes since 1988. Since 1996 all of our notes have been produced in this
material. Each denomination is a different colour and gets gradually larger as
the value increases which is a general aid but more so for the visually
impaired.
I know that more
and more countries around the world are quickly becoming cashless societies but
I think it would be a shame to loose these works of art from our lives.
