Gardening.

There always seems a lot to do around the house, inside and out, so we have had to make a concerted effort to do a lot of cutting back in the garden. Every few years we have to give trees and bushes a hard prune or cut back otherwise they get out of control.

One of the problems with doing this is what to do with all the pruning material. The only solution previously has been to make numerous trips to the tip but we are fortunate to have a friend who lent us his big petrol driven mulching machine.

This was one of the last trees to come under the saw. It was a Lilli Pilli that was as wide as it is high but was keeping a lot of light off fruit trees and the grass was getting very bare without sunlight.

Some of the branches waiting to be mulched, alongside the new compost bin and pile of already mulched garden waste.

This is the remains of a big palm tree that was in the far corner of the garden. It had very sharp needle like spikes and was not worth keeping with young boys running around the garden. I think this big lump will have to be attacked with a chain saw.

The tools of the trade.

The great mulching machine on loan from good friend Larry.

One thing that you must never do is to drop your glasses into a mulching machine.  It doesn't do them any good. They were a pair of CliCs and the only reason I found them was that the magnets in either side of the bridge were attracted to the sides of the loading chute.

The pile of mulch has now shrunk a bit as we have been using it on the front garden as we add new plants in the various levels.
