Saturday 4th September.

A couple of months ago we planned another adventure for Alex which was to go to Newcastle by boat and return by steam train. Friends Michelle and George booked in as well. The plan was to leave Sydney, near the Opera House, sail out through The Heads and travel up the coast to Newcastle by catamaran. The return trip was to be aboard a train headed by steam locomotive number 3642.

For the last couple of days the weather has been deteriorating with wild storms moving up from Victoria. Alex has also come down with a very heavy cold which means he wont be coming with us.

Last night the weather forecast was for rain and rough seas. Just our luck.

George and Michelle waiting in the rain to board the catamaran.

Everyone is getting a bit wet!

Grey and overcast, not how we usually see Sydney Harbour.

Once on board we were advised that the weather conditions outside the Heads had deteriorated even further. The chances were that the boat would have to turn back at the harbour entrance as the swell was running at 3 to 4 metres! Eventually the trip was cancelled.

This picture is for the ferries name sake.

Our money was promptly refunded but we have booked another trip doing the same thing but going down the coast to Wollongong. Its not until Saturday 13th November but definitely something to look forward to, just hope the weather is OK.
