We have enjoyed heavy rain since
Sunday and the smoke from the fires and back burning has dispersed. Sydney recorded its highest three-day rainfall for November in
six years. In our area it’s the first rain for over three months and we had just under 50mm in 48 hours. Everything in the garden is dripping wet
and getting greener by the minute. This has helped with the bush
fire situation in our area but there are still some fires burning in NSW.
When the fires were at their peak in the Bilpin area, the township and the fire fighters had a visit from our new Prime Minister, Tony Abbot. He made a short appearance in front of the media, in full Rural Fire Service yellow clothing and then got into his chauffeur driven limo and disappeared. Its been calculated that to be in front of the cameras cost us taxpayers about $10,000. This was to fly and transport, he, and his entourage, media etc. up from Canberra. The whole point that must be stressed is that these fire fighters are unpaid volunteers who up to a few years ago had to pay for their own gear. If they cut the pay to the pollies, maybe these heroes could get some reimbursement for their time, effort and for risking their lives.

A pair of Little Corella's to brighten up our day.
